Bell Communications Research, the counterpart of AT&T’s Bell Laboratories set up by the seven regional phone companies after they were spun out of AT&T, has decided that the Stratus Computer Inc VOS virtual operating system should become the standard environment wherever fault-tolerance is required within the Bell companies: the other Standard Operating Environments mandated by Bellcore are Unix, MS-DOS, DEC’s VMS and Unisys’ 1100 OS.
