Bell Atlantic Corp, Philadelphia is putting its name and some effort behind the long-gestating idea of the intelligent home in which all the electrical appliances, plus security systems, can be controlled remotely by telephone. It has joined forces with Teletimer International Inc of Boca Raton, Florida, and Square D Corp, Palatine, Illinois, and the trio plans to start trials of a service in the Washington DC area this spring according to the Wall Street Journal. Teletimer has commissioned Square D to provide equipment for its Intelligent Home system – costing $700 to $1,000 to install in a new house, and Sears, Roebuck & Co to market it.
