Bell Atlantic Corp reckons that it can see a business model that will eventually work, and its Video Services division says it has begun to develop its video-on-demand product for commercial use. It now hopes to deploy the interactive service on its Philadelphia switched broadband network much later than originally planned, in 1998. The company also said it ended its market trial of the product over copper wires, because the service would be used over fiber optic lines in the future. It had been testing video-on-demand with 1,000 customers since May 1995. The company’s new goal is to enhance and upgrade the video- on-demand delivery and support systems, and to deploy it over an optical fiber-to-the-kerb distribution architecture.
