Richmond, Virginia-based Bell Atlantic Corp signed an agreement with Jones Intercable Inc that enables Jones to provide local telephone service and paves the way for Bell Atlantic to offer long distance services within its own service area. It is the first local telephone service interconnection agreement negotiated under the 1996 Telecommunications Act, which provides for both residential and business telephone service competition, according to the companies.
