Bell Atlantic Corp is in a dispute with Mexican authorities related to its more than $1,000m investment in Grupo Iusacell SA and it could file a lawsuit against the Mexican government, but it denied any plans to pull out of the country altogether, a suggestion made in the Wall Street Journal. The telecommunications giant contends Mexican regulators have failed to comply with a promise made under a previous administration to give Iusacell a lucrative concession to compete with Telefonos de Mexico SA on local phone service. Mexican officials claim they have no record of such a promise and have withheld final approval pending a decision on what they will charge Iusacell.
