US baby bell telco Bell Atlantic Corp was in the bidding for taking over Southern New England Telecommunications Corp, and was beaten by a $4,400m offer from fellow Bell SBC Communications Inc (CI No 3,319), reports Reuters. Bell Atlantic had been in the running but now regards the potential takeover of SNET as not strategically imperative.
