BELL ATLANTIC CORP SEARCHING FOR TV PROGRAMMING INVESTMENTS

By CBR Staff Writer

Bell Atlantic Corp said it will be searching for investments in television programming to feed its vast new interactive network once the firm’s merger with Tele-Communications Inc is completed in early 1995: Bell plans to launch a pilot program of interactive TV services at about 2,000 homes in the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC this spring; the test programme offer movies, entertainment, news and shopping services; much of the information will be delivered in a manner similar to a VCR, in which the consumer can stop or fast forward through programs; the cost has not yet been fixed but Bell said average installation costs of $500 to $700 per home were a reality.
