BELGACOM COMPLAINTS DOUBLE

By CBR Staff Writer

Complaints about Belgian telephone company Belgacom NV doubled in 1995, its last full year as a wholly government-owned body, to more than 2,100, Belgian newspaper Het Belang Van Limburg said. Earlier this year the government sold a 49.9% stake in Belgacom to a consortium headed by Ameritech Corp and including Singapore Telecommunications Ltd and Tele Danmark A/S (CI No 2,815). The paper said the bulk of complaints were about billing, but there were also increasing complaints about new services such as sex lines. More than half the complaints were dealt with but nearly 600 complaints went unresolved.
