Internet reward points ‘bank’ Beenz.com Inc has been threatened with a class action suit by a number of users after an affiliated web site inadvertently gave away ‘beenz’ worth thousands of dollars. Beenz operates a scheme where consumers are rewarded for visiting web sites with ‘beenz’ reward points that can be redeemed for goods and services.

On Friday, Florida-based Beenz trader Innerspace Intermedia Inc accidentally gave away 100,000 beenz bonuses, worth $1,000, to visitors to its site. When a software monitor picked up the gaffe, Beenz retrieved all the mislaid beenz from users that had flocked to Innerspace to cash in. These users are now pondering an action against the New York firm, claiming there are no contractual rights allowing Beenz to do such a thing. Beenz says it is perfectly within its rights and has added an extra layer of security to prevent any future mistakes. Yesterday evening no beenz traders were trading, and error messages were presented to anyone trying to collect beenz.
