The international Bechtel Group Inc architectural, engineering and construction firm of San Francisco has formed Bechtel Software Inc in Acton, Massachusetts to market the project management applications it has developed: the initial four products are Synergy, a comprehensive, modular cost, time and materials program for engineering, procurement, construction and operating plant that uses the Oracle relational database; Walkthru, which enables the user to interact with existing 3-D computer models on a Silicon Graphics Iris workstation; 3DM is a three-dimensional modelling system that enables designers and engineers to work directly in a 3-D computer model; and Setroute is an interactive, menu-driven and PC-DOS-based software system that enables electrical engineers to monitor and track hundreds of electrical components in a plant to be sure they’re integrated correctly.
