Beats Music goes live on the App Store

Beats, co-founded by Dr. Dre, has launched its first music streaming service.

Beats has released its first music streaming service, Beats Music.

The service allows users to create and share playlists and download albums for offline listening, similar to competitor Spotify.

Beats, the audio hardware maker co-founded by Dr. Dre, have allegedly hired DJs and music experts from Pitchfork to curate radio stations and playlists.

One of the curation based features, ‘Right Now’, enables users to input their location, what they’re doing, who they’re with and what genre they want to listen to, and the service creates a playlist according to the data results.

The ‘Highlights’ feature allows users to stay up to date with new music by following Beats Music’s programmer picks.

A statement on the Beats Music blog said: "We wanted to build a music service that combined the freedom of an on-demand subscription service – unlimited, uninterrupted streaming and downloads of tens of millions of songs – but layer on top features that would give you that feeling only music that moves you can give."

Beats Music competes with the likes of Spotify, Rdio and eMusic.
