Be Ready fo Y2K Disaster but Don’t Panic Says Japan

In what would appear to be a contradictory message to the nation, Japan’s Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi last week said he did not any expect major disruptions to stem from the Y2K millenium bug, but went on to suggest citizens heed the advice of a government advisory panel, and stockpile several days food and water, just in case. Citizens are also advised to withdraw sufficient cash to get them through any potential collapse of the nation’s ATM networks.
