The British Broadcasting Corp is using its coverage of the Wimbledon tennis tournament in London this week to demonstrate its pilot enhanced television offering. The BBC says it is the world’s first live enhanced TV broadcast. The service will be broadcast over the BBC’s soon to be launched BBC Text digital channel. Viewers will be offered split screen views of the courts of their choice, as well as live news feeds, score updates, player profiles on demand, and quizzes, says the BBC. But, for now, general viewers will be not able to appreciate the facilities, as digital terrestrial set-top boxes have not yet been upgraded with the necessary software to handle the service.
