The BBC is planning to embark on a 12-month trial to beam selected shows online prior to their scheduled transmission on TV.
Being launched to compete with other streaming services including Netflix and Hulu, the trial will see about 40 hours of regularly scheduled programming across several genres.
The trial is also aimed at testing whether the proportion can be augmented by launching early online broadcasts of popular TV shows and reach computers before TVs.
In 2012, BBC received over 2 billion TV and radio programme request up from 1.94 billion in 2011.
According to reports, the BBC iPlayer accounts for about 2% of BBC’s viewers.
