Following the launch of UB Networks Inc’s new Web-based network management system (CI No 2,866), Bay Networks Inc has followed suit with the announcement that version 7.1 of its Optivity system will provide World Wide Web-based monitoring and viewing capabilities when it ships in November. The Web capabilities will be made available through the company’s object-oriented Enterprise Command Center. Bay Networks of San Jose, California, has also followed UB’s lead by implementing the new capabilities through the use of the Java language. The company has announced two Java-based applications already: OmniView, a network statistics viewing and integration tool, and the Enterprise Health Advisor, designed to monitor the status of routers, hubs and switches. The Web-enabled Enterprise Command Center, OmniView, the Enterprise Health Adviser and a Web agent for the company’s BayStack 100Base-T hubs are all due to ship some time in the fourth quarter, with pricing announced at launch time.
