BAY TARGETS ISPs WITH ITS X2/K56FLEX CONCENTRATOR

By CBR Staff Writer

Bay Networks Inc has launched its Model 8000 Remote Access Concentrator RAC hoping to win over Internet Service Provider ISP/carrier Point of Presence POP and enterprise dial access solutions. Bay says the new unit will offer a choice of x2 and K56flex digital modem technologies. The 8000 RAC is fully supported by Bay Networks’ BaySecure Access Control RADIUS server – an industry-standard RADIUS server incorporating user authentication, authorisation and accounting solutions for enterprise and service provider environments. Bay claims the unit will support either the US Robotics/3Com x2 or the Rockwell/Lucent K56flex 56Kbps technologies via a software download. It says its implementations of x2 and K56flex are scheduled for availability in November 1997 and December 1997, respectively. The 8000 RAC integrates digital modems, ISDN Primary Rate Interface PRI, and T1 or E1 interfaces in a compact platform. It also provides connectivity for two PRIs or Channelized T1/E1 lines with support for up to 48 industry- standard V.34 33.6 Kbps digital modems and 56 Kbps technology for North American T1 applications or 62 modems for international networks with built-in redundancy. The 8000 Remote Access Concentrator is scheduled to begin shipping during October 1997 and is priced at around $20,000 for two PRIs or Channelized T1 interfaces and 48 modems, and costs $26,000 for two PRIs or Channelized E1 interfaces and 62 modems.
