Bay Networks Inc has announced a network management package for Internet service providers, OptivityServices. The system consists of three components: Optivity Enterprise, a network element management application for large networks; additional software capabilities provided through partnerships with other vendors; and Professional Services, customisation services for specific service provider environments. OptivityServices uses existing element management and troubleshooting tools in Optivity Enterprise, and includes new application programming interfaces for partner development, as well as multi-vendor device support for Telecommunication Management Network. The partnerships include a joint marketing agreement with Wide Area Network Design Laboratory Inc, of Warren, New Jersey, to develop new network design and analysis capabilities for service providers. The Design Labs’ Network Planning and Analysis Tools application suite addresses a variety of protocols, including Frame Relay and Asynchronous Transfer Mode, as well as multi-drop line, access and multiplexor-based backbone for the design of multiple, mixed network environments. It provides network design, simulation and capacity planning from the core infrastructure to the customer premises equipment.
