BASIC INTERNET?

By CBR Staff Writer

Take Hollywood sex symbol Sharon Stone and Silicon Valley hearthrob-billionaire Larry Ellison, add champagne, a little moonlight, and some romantic music. Has a convincing ring to it, this scenario, n’est-ce pas? Given that Ellison was profiled in Vanity Fair last month, with the Oracle billionaire attracting lots of female attention by announcing his availability for a new significant other on Oprah last year, it’s not too wild an idea to put the two celebrities together as a potential item. So the news that the two in fact did have a dinner date at a posh Sonoma County night spot called Babette’s earlier this month had some in the Valley wondering if Ellison had decided to catch himself a movie star girlfriend. Not so, it seems – to Larry’s chagrin, perhaps. They met. They ate. They talked, says Monday’s San Jose Mercury News, and apparently that’s all that happened. But as Ellison adds a tad wistfully, I wish I had more exciting data but that’s about it. According to the paper, all the two got down to was talking about Stone’s sister’s Kelly’s charitable organization, Planet Hope, which provides job training for the homeless in Los Angeles. It seems Stone wanted advice for her sibling’s related effort, Computer Hope, which offers computer training and basic digital jobs skills for the homeless. We don’t know who invited whom to dinner, but given that Ellison is getting increasing profile, works in the computer industry after all, and was handy for Stone to meet and greet given that she is currently working in San Francisco on a movie called Spear, it may have been on her initiative. The newspaper’s gossip columnist suggests that Stone is said to be none too pleased with Ellison, who couldn’t contain his boyish excitement and just had to boast about his date with the hot star of Basic Instinct, leaking the news of their rendezvous.
