BASF Corp is scaling back its involvement in magnetic recording media, announcing from its Bedford, Massachusetts base that it will terminate computer tape production in Bedford, let its 5.25 floppy disk production go in a management buyout, and reorganisation of marketing, sales and administrative functions; production of 3.5 floppies in Bedford will continue in partnership with Fuji Photo Film Ltd USA, all of which will lead to 250 employees being laid off with another 100 to move to the new company making 5.25 floppy disks.
