US-based book retailer Barnes & Noble has introduced a new version of the Nook e-reader, NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight, that lets customers read in the dark without requiring an external light.
The E Ink device features company’s lighting technology comes with an infrared 6-inch touchscreen, built-in anti-glare screen for reading in any lit environment, and an adjustable light for reading in the dark.
GlowLight battery allows over one month of reading on a single charge, with the light on, the company said.
Barnes & Noble chief executive officer William J. Lynch said with our new GlowLight technology and the most advanced E Ink display available, we’ve created the most versatile, high-utility Reader ever; as exceptional for reading in the darkest bedroom as on the brightest beach.
GlowLight technology is optimised for low-light conditions and delivers uniform light across an E Ink display, creating a better nighttime reading experience than LCD.
The device is lightest at under 7 ounces and 5% lighter than the NOOK Simple Touch.
Users can navigate, shop and read through more than 1,000 books, as well as turn pages, look up words, highlight passages, and adjust the font size and do more.
Customers can also control the amount of light, whether in a dimly lit or pitch dark room because GlowLight turns on instantly and adjusts easily with a touch.
The new device is available at $139 and will be in stores starting in early May.
