Kortrijk, Belgium based Barco NV, a $325m-a-year multinational in the area of electronic technology, says in a comment on its half-year results that the improvement is down to innovations in its product line – it introduced a liquid crystal diode-based projection display system, and to cost-saving measures. The company reported current net profit after taxes and before $6.3m amortisation of goodwill equivalent to $16.6m for the first six months of 1992, up from $7.5m last time, on turnover up 5% to at $200.6m. Economic recovery in the US has had a positive effect on the order book. Compared with the first half of 1991, sales increased in all three areas of activity – visualisation systems, graphics and automation, although sales growth was highest in Barco Automation, which climbed by 13%.
