Barclays won the gold award in the financial category at the finals of the Self-Service World Outstanding Achievement Awards for its account servicing kiosks in branches across the UK. The kiosks allow customers to pay bills, transfer money and administer their accounts via a touch-screen, reducing waiting times and freeing up staff for more complex interactions.

The judges commended Barclays for the rapid development and roll-out of the project which resulted in 512 kiosks being deployed to 425 branches in just three months.

In the first year of use, the kiosks processed more than 800,000 transactions per month for more than one million unique users.

The sheer volume of use of the kiosks in the first year alone shows that they are extremely popular with our customers who appreciate their ease of use and speed, noted Barnaby Davis, electronic banking director at Barclays. As a result, we are exploring ways to further expand the kiosks across our branch network.
