The Business Software Alliance is mad as hell and it’s not going to take it any more – its going to war on the US government over the red tape that tangles up exports of software: the big beef is the restrictions on the export of personal computer programs – which can be bought in any retail store and exported in people’s luggage without let or hindrance – with encryption capabilities: such exports at present have to be licensed on a case by case basis – but why the militaristic language? At present export of such mass market software has to be sanctioned by the Department of Defense because it’s classified as – wait for it – munitions.
