Nonetheless, he acknowledges that Microsoft’s committment to Windows may have raised some doubts about the standing of MS-DOS and OS/2: he says that MS-DOS will receive additional networking support and reductions in memory requirements; there will be new server applications including LAN Manager for Windows NT, and for those benighted souls that made an investment, sometimes very significant, in OS/2 on the strength of the now-soured IBM Corp-Microsoft relationship, Microsoft says that it intends to provide an OS/2 1.X and 2.0 migration layer in Windows NT mode; further, Ballmer promises that Microsoft will build an OS/2 subsystem for Windows NT: this will enable OS/2 applications to run under NT with little or no modification; it is considering upgrading buyers of OS/2 development kits to Windows.
