BAHRAIN AND UAE PLAN INCREASED MULTIMEDIA CO-OPERATION

Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates plan to increase co- ordination in communications and multimedia services between the two states. Bahrain Telecommunication Co signed a memorandum of understanding with Emirates Telecommunications Corp aimed at boosting and reinforcing mutual business development. The Bahrain company, which has one of the most advanced networks in the region, is 39% owned by the Bahrain government, 20% by Cable & Wireless Plc with the rest owned by investors and financial institutions. The government owns 60% of the Emirates company with the rest held by local investors.
