We knew that Western Union Corp had only just come back from the brink of bankruptcy, but we didn’t realise things were that bad: former US ambassador to China George Bush, asked in the first televised press conference of his presidency why he didn’t telephone some of his former cronies in the government and persuade them to see sense, said he’d tried, but he couldn’t get through.
