BackWeb Technologies Ltd, the internet communications software developer, is targeting the internet service provider market with an original equipment manufacturer deal with Swedish telecoms equipment manufacturer LM Ericsson Telefon AB. BackWeb will gain a potential customer base of 100 to add to its 350 already installed, reckons Mikki Nasch, director of business development for BackWeb.

Ericsson will embed BackWeb’s Polite Technology in its Internet Advertiser, which will allow the ISP to collect the browsing preferences of users and then send them customized adverts in flash messages. The San Jose-based firm claims that this will change ISPs’ advertising revenues, as they can now guarantee that users will see the ads. Y-Pay, a US ISP, has already signed up for the service.
