BACKING UP FILES IN LARGE IBM MVS SITES TAKES TOO LONG

By CBR Staff Writer

Time is tight for backing up files in large IBM MVS sites, and not only is it taking longer to back up but the time available is decreasing according to the latest Xephon User Survey: a third of 39 MVS sites surveyed needed more than three hours to complete their daily back-ups, but nearly half have under four hours a day to spare, and over a quarter of sites actually had to skip back-ups through lack of time; over 40% of sites now resort to taking back-ups while their on-line systems are running and a significant number report a noticeable degradation in their on-line systems performance as a result, and over a third of sites have no disaster contingency; details of the report, MVS Back-Up and Recovery, can be had from Xephon Technology Transfer Ltd on (0)-635-33823.
