Continuing its months-old tradition of releasing Windows NT hack tools with grossly unappealing names (CI No 3,467)(NBD 08/05/98), the Cult of the Dead Cow has announced ButtSniffer 0.9 beta. The software works as a standalone executable or as a plug-in (or ButtPlug) for CDC’s remote administration tool, Back Orifice. It ‘sniffs’ passwords, filters packets, supports multiple network interfaces and multiple sessions, and can be run as a telnet port. Depending on who you believe, these tools are used by responsible system administrators to ensure network security, by irresponsible crackers to compromise security and steal information, or both.
