BAAN OFFERS NEW SOFTWARE FOR SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS

By CBR Staff Writer

Baan Co NV, which has been tight-lipped about its future ahead of todayÆs fourth quarter figures, has gone public on a European roll-out of BaanService, enterprise management software for companies with field service operations. The product was quietly rolled out in the US with little publicity some months ago and is aimed both at manufacturers who have to provide maintenance services and dedicated service providers. Baan claims it is the first enterprise service management system whose capability spans both front and back office functions. It brings Baan directly into competition with Horsham, Pennsylvania, Astea International Inc and sales force automation companies like Vantive and Clarify. Baan claims that by integrating the service system with the rest of the enterprise, service organizations are able to feed information from service calls back into the product development and manufacturing process.
