The release, currently referred to as Gemini, will probably hit the market in March or April 2004 according to Graeme Cooksley, president of Baan and executive vice president of global sales and marketing for SSA GT.
They [Baan] spent 100,000 man days on the new version but I am going to hold up the release date because I do not think feature/function is what it should be, he said.
The delay should not necessarily be interpreted as bad news because, according to Cooksley, the product will emerge with additional features and functions. It will also address migration issues, which is an important part of SSA GT’s forward-looking ROI-centered strategy.
The Gemini product certainly looks good but as yet they have not built the upgrade from Baan 4 to Gemini, it has not been translated into all languages and on some feature functions, it should have more, he said.
He also indicated that SSA will be imposing its quality and testing standards on its new acquisition. When we bring products to market we want to make sure it is a quality product, he said, explaining that Baan and SSA operated different general release policies.
When we release a product for general availability, basically it is ready to install; what Baan did is they would announce general availability of a product but [it would not have] been tested to [the level] we would test for general availability. They just did it differently, he said.
He stressed that SSA GT was committed to the Baan product and to adding value to the suite.
