Baan NV is continuing to build out its supply chain management range with acquisitions in coming weeks of niche companies focused on supply chain management for the transportation and warehousing sectors. Baan said earlier this year that plugging holes in its supply chain and internet portfolio would be a key element of its 1998 acquisition strategy – and the company won’t stop with transportation and warehousing. Baan still has quite some way to go in fleshing out its range of supply chain software products before it achieves its goal of a single ‘centrified’ supply chain. It will continue on the acquisition trail in order to bring on board domain expertise – there are after all around 500 companies occupying various niches of the supply chain market to pick off, according to Baan’s president of supply chain management, Amal Johnson. The company’s internal development will focus on collaborating across the enterprise.
