Microsoft has announced updates to the data services on Microsoft Azure. The updates include: a preview of Aure HDInsight running on Linux, the general availability of Storm on HDInsight, the general availability of Azure Machine Learning and the availability of Informatica technology on Azure.
The new investments signal Microsoft’s continued investment into its broad portfolio of solutions that help to unlock insights from data.
Writing on the Microsoft blog, T. K. Rengarajan, corporate vice president, Data Platform and Joseph Sirosh, corporate vice president, Machine Learning, said: "Our goal is to make big data technology simpler and more accessible to the greatest number of people possible: big data pros, data scientists and app developers, but also everyday businesspeople and IT managers."
"Azure is at the center of our strategy, offering customers scale, simplicity and great economics. And we’re embracing open technologies, so people can use the tools, languages and platforms of their choice to pull the maximum value from their data."
Azure Machine Learning has also been made generally available today which signifies Microsoft’s commitment to helping people and organisations use the cloud to unlock the possibilities of data.
Azure Machine Learning is also displaying Microsoft’s commitment to open source by using the Python programming language as well as R, the popular language of statisticians within Azure.
As part of the swathe of announcements that Microsoft has made the company have also announced that Informatica has joined the Azure Marketplace and will now be available in Linux and Windows virtual machines on Azure.
