BIOS supplier Award Software International Inc has added support for the ACPI Advanced Configuration and Power Interface standard to its EliteBIOS system software. The support should speed up the time to market of systems using the standard, which is being pushed by Microsoft Corp, Intel Corp and Toshiba Corp. ACPI is aimed at providing operating system-directed power management to servers, desktops and mobile computers, enabling Windows to know which applications are active, and automatically handling power management activities for all subsystems. It’s a part of Microsoft Corp’s wider OnNow power management initiative, and the PC 98 personal computer specification.
