AW Computer Systems Inc, Mount Laurel, New Jersey, has been signed by Safeway Stores Inc to upgrade a portion of its point-of-sale system with the AWare/4680 system to enable Safeway to use the IBM 4680 Store System and Supermarket Application immediately while retaining existing Datachecker cash register equipment; Safeway has also asked AW to customise and pilot an interface between older model IBM 3683 cash registers and the IBM 4680 Store System, giving AW some $3m of business over the next 18 months.
