Avis Rent A Car Ltd has placed an order with Mercury Communications Ltd for the establishment of a data network based on Mercury’s 5000 CDN service: it will connect 35 sites across the UK with the Avis network processing facilities in Hayes, Middlesex, and provide instantaneous updates on car rental transactions; to enable Avis to continue using its remote stations without modification, the IBM SNA proprietary protocol is to be used – the first time that this has been supported by the 5000 CDN service.
