AVID PROMISES MORE SUN-COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE

By CBR Staff Writer

Avid Technology Inc, which has just gained DreamWorks SKG as a partner for some of its digital animation projects (CI No 2,751), will write more of its newsroom and broadcast software for Silicon Graphics Inc workstations, the hardware of choice for DreamWorks. As part of this commitment, the latest version of Avid’s newsroom editing suite, Netstation 14 announced at IBC 95, is based around Silicon Graphics’s Challenger media server. It will be compatible with the company’s full-blown newsroom system, AvidNews, which is due out at the end of 1996 and will support video, audio and text. Netstation, which Avid got as Basys News when it bought Basys Ltd off Digital Equipment Corp (CI No 2,531), does not handle full graphics and audio files.
