ASAP 6.3, which forms the basis of its EX-1500 device and managed services offerings, has had its web-based management console improved to speed deployment times, VP of product management marketing Sarah Daniels said.
The market moving from early adopters, it’s not yet mainstream, but it’s getting closer to mainstream, Daniels said. As it moves from bleeding edge to the general market, you have to start improving the management features.
The GUI allows access policies to be created and mapped to user groups pulled from LDAP directories. Aventail engineers have been able to set up installations in 20 minutes, the company claims. There is still a command line interface for the hardcore.
New criteria can be introduced into policies in the 6.3 release. Senior product marketing manager Chris Witeck said that source, time and date and strength of cryptography can now be used in policy definitions.
Also new in the latest release is better interoperability with the web front ends of enterprise applications including Siebel and PeopleSoft. Witeck said these improvements have been made based on Aventail’s experiences, but would not get into specifics.
Also reflecting the growing adoption of SSL VPN systems – which provide a way to secure access to corporate resources without the need to deploy client software – Aventail has introduced new pricing levels.
The company will now make available a $13,995 basic box, which allows 25 concurrent users to access web applications via the browser. With additional access level licenses, this goes up to about $19,000. The original 50-user EX-1500 release still costs $24,995.
