Avaya also announced its new applications for Nokia mobile devices, the first fruits of its partnership with the Finnish company.

With its new Equant alliance, the first product is a managed IP telephony system designed for multinational companies. The system integrates Avaya applications with a VoIP VPN service from Equant. The new product is available and includes on-going managed services support.

As IT executives continue to move their organizations to converged IP communications, they will be looking for business technology partnerships that can deliver the right solutions on a global scale, said Pierre-Louis Biaggi, head of Equant’s integration services business unit, in a statement.

Under the alliance, Equant would resell Avaya products as part of its Enterprise Telephony service, which it runs in more than 95 countries. And Equant would bundle Avaya’s products into its hosted IP communications services.

Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Avaya and Netherlands-based Equant have been working together since March 2004 on making Equant’s VoIP VPN architecture interoperable with Avaya’s Communication Manager.

Separately, Avaya also said its first enterprise fixed mobile convergence applications that it has developed jointly with Nokia of Finland are available. The downloads enable Nokia Series 60 mobile users to access the Avaya Communications Manager desk phone remotely. This is the first product announcement from the two companies since they signed a joint-development agreement earlier this year.
