The Avant Garde Group, Walnut Creek, California, has announced shipping of EtherPeek, an Ethernet network analysing tool that uses the Macintosh graphic interface. EtherPeek enables users to capture, transmit, view and interpret traffic on Ethernet networks so they can then troubleshoot problems, check network connections and analyse performance. It can intercept every type of packet on an Ethernet network and comes pre-configured to decode AppleTalk and IP packets. Avant Garde also does the EtherPeek packet analysis to check compliance with protocol standards. Packets may be saved for post-analysis by EtherPeek or by other user applications. EtherPeek is a software-only system which is compatible with most major Ethernet controller cards for the Macin-tosh. It runs on any Mac II and works with the Apple EtherTalk NB, 3Com Ether-Link/NB, Cayman GatorCard/E II, Novell Ether-Port II, and Asant MacCon II boards. EtherPeek can also be used on a Macintosh SE/30 with a Novell Ether-Port SE/30 card. It lists for $475.
