Avant! Corp, the Fremont, California-based provider of electronic design automation software, said Wednesday that it will acquire Xynetix Design Systems Inc on undisclosed financial terms. Rochester, NY-based Xynetix develops EDA software for advanced integrated circuit packaging and complex system design.
Avant! says the purchase will broaden its ECAD-to-TCAD product offerings, boosting its position in IC packaging design software and enabling it to capitalize on demand for next-generation system-on-a-chip designs. The two companies say that the integration of Xynetix’s packaging, virtual prototyping, and design data validation software with Avant!’s VDSM process simulation, IC design, and analysis technologies will enable the merged company to offer a totally comprehensive design package.
Separately, Avant! said its board has voted to terminate the company’s stock repurchase program that has been in effect since last July. It claims 1.18 million shares were repurchased under the program, which authorized the buy-back of up to two million shares.
