Avant! Corp’s Galax! intellectual property and design reuse subsidiary is to acquire Arcus Technology Ltd, an application specific integrated circuit company from Bangalore in India. Terms were not disclosed. Arcus, which also has operations in Singapore and Avant!’s home town of Fremont, California, has specialized in the design of telecom, RISC processors and mixed signal designs, and claims to have delivered around 40 ASICs since it was founded in 1990. Its customers have included Fujitsu Ltd, LG Semicon, Lucent Technologies Inc, Northern Telecom Ltd, Philips Electronics, Sony Corp and Siemens AG. Arya Bhattacherjee, chairman and managing director of Arcus, will become head of Galax!’s IC Design Solutions Division. The acquisition is expected to close in the 3rd quarter of 1998 and Avant! Says it should be non-dilutive to its stockholders.
