Autodesk, which is best known for its AutoCAD design software for the manufacturing and building construction markets, said the acquisition will strengthen its global software development base. Hanna has development centers in Shanghai, China; Pune, India; and Atlanta, Georgia.

The companies have partnered for five years. Autodesk said it will tap into Hanna’s developers to build new products for digital prototyping, building information modeling, and 3-D applications. Autodesk also hopes to draw from an emerging pool of developer talent from engineering students in China.
