This manufacturing industry effort supports factory design in a full, 3D environment, in one place, at one time. The basis of the alliance will be the use of Autodesk Architectural Desktop as the foundation for the UGS FactoryCAD product, providing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with the tools to create a virtual manufacturing facility, using model-based design. A key benefit of this method is the use of intelligent objects which adhere to their respective design conventions, allowing designers to identify and solve potential problems before plant construction and serve as a preventative measure against costly last-minute changes.
