The information technology infrastructure of the Australian Taxation Office is about to be outsourced in a contract that may be worth in excess of A$400m. The ATO tender is due to be released in early August, and represents the largest federal government IT outsourcing project so far. The contract will be managed by the federal government’s Office of Asset Sales and Information Technology Outsourcing and the ATO. Mainframe, mid-range computers, desktops, LANs, voice and data services and infrastucture and support will all be covered in the contract. By the end of next year, tenders are due to be called for most Federal Government IT arrangements, under a so-called whole of government outsourcing scheme.
