It is not yet clear where the additional money will come from, but Australia’s minister for finance and administration, John Fahey, has said the government will need to spend $373.4m on its mission critical systems in the lead up to the year 2000. This figure is a full $292.5m up on the $79m the government earmarked for the job only two weeks ago. Fahey did not say whether or not individual agencies would have to make up the year 2000 shortfall.
