In the three weeks since Apple Australia announced its iMac Internet computer for the consumer market, its price tag has climbed from A$2,500 to around $2,800. Due to hit the Australian market in August, the price hike may cause some reluctance among potential buyers. Official pricing will be announced next week, but a local Apple executive has confirmed the machine will go on sale slightly below $2,800, despite earlier indications of a $2,500 sticker price. The recent downward spiral of the Australian dollar is the main reason for the upward revision of price, along with modifications for the local market including a different modem and display. It is not yet known whether the different modem is faster than the 33.6Kbps models which will accompany early US iMacs.
