Demonstrating that it is serious about the industrial development it requires from companies that want to sell to the state, the Australian government has struck Acer Inc from its list of approved suppliers on grounds that it had not fulfilled its commitment for local development. Acer had committed to building a software development centre in Australia to get on the list, and says it will be able to fulfil its obligations and get its name back on the schedule. An Acer spokeswoman in Taipei said there had been some misunderstandings. As far as I know the commitment is good for four years but the Australian government made the assessment after only eight months, she told Reuters.
