By CBR Staff Writer

Auspex Systems Inc calls the announcement of its 4Front family of servers its first big step into the network attached storage (NAS) appliance market. The company has announced three machines: the 4Front AS100 and AS200, aimed at entry-level workgroups and departments; and an enterprise-level offering, the NS2000. The AS100 comes with 36 Gigabytes of disk storage, expandable to 109, and includes RAID 1 mirroring and a backup application. The AS200 adds RAID 5 and sequential I/O. The NS000 has 56GB of disk space and sports ServerGuard failover software. All 4Front boxes support CIFS and NFS for both NT and Unix clients. The AS100 starts at $16,000, the AS200 at $32,000 and the NS2000 at $76,950.
