AURORA AND SINGTEL FORM TAIWAN MOBILE VENTURE

Taiwan’s Aurora Corp formed a mobile-phone joint venture with Singapore Telecommunications Ltd to tap Taiwan’s liberalizing telecommunications market, the latest in a string of ventures linking Taiwan enterprises and overseas phone companies powers since the island opened its long-closed telecommunications market in January. Major new investors include US giant Sprint Corp and Hong Kong Telecommunications Ltd. Aurora said it, Singapore Telecom and other Taiwan partners including Hocheng Corp a nd Taiwan Pineapple Ltd planned to set up a joint venture to offer mobile telephone and paging services; the new company is likely to be capitalized at around $217m, but said details need further discussions.
